Usage, care and disposal instructions
With proper care, cellulose sponges can last indefinitely. Under normal day-to-day domestic usage, sponges typically last for around six months. To make them last, rinse sponges thoroughly after each use and allow them to air dry completely.
Since they’re made of natural materials, they’re more prone to absorbing food particles and bacteria so it is important to disinfect regularly. They can be soaked in vinegar for five minutes, rinsed and left to dry or they can be put in the washing machine or dishwasher at a hot temperature. Once they start to smell or break down, they should be replaced.
Cellulose sponges can be home composted. To speed up decomposition, cut the sponge into small pieces before adding it to your compost pile.
If you don’t compost, don't worry, you can put these in your usual household waste.
